Gasoline prices took breather from their relentless rise after oil last week retreated from its earlier peak above $120 a barrel. Gasoline in the Houston area averaged $3.90 a gallon, down a nickel over the past week, according to the fuel-price tracking website GasBuddy. Gas prices here are 76 cents higher than a month ago and $1.32 higher than a year ago.Nationally, gasoline prices fell 9 cents a gallon to an average $4.23 a gallon, according to GasBuddy. That's still up 72 cents from a month ago and $1.37 from year ago.
