One of the reasons officials said they “strongly support” using the site for a jail was because of their belief that it would be mutually beneficial for the city, county and “all of the residents of the county who access these buildings on a daily basis.”

Cuyahoga County is considering building its new jail on about 72 acres of undeveloped land at Transportation Boulevard and Granger Road in Garfield Heights, just north of I-480. The property has sat vacant for at least 15 years. CLEVELAND, Ohio – If Cuyahoga County wants to build its new jail in Garfield Heights, it has the “full support” of that city’s mayor and council, according to a letter the two bodies sent to Executive Chris Ronayne and County Council on Thursday.

They were responding to Ronayne’s recent proposal to purchase 72 acres at Granger Road and Transportation Boulevard in Garfield Heights, which he hopes to transform into a justice-focused campus, centered around a new jail. Garfield Heights City Council, which has to approve the purchase, will discuss the proposal for the first time on Thursday next week.
