The recently released extensive dataset, Gaia's focused product release , includes details of over half a million previously undiscovered faint stars. This contributes to addressing the gaps that remained unfilled in the previous survey. Not just this, the star surveyor expanded its capabilities to detect over 380 newly identified gravitationally lensed quasars and even precisely estimated the locations of over 150,000 asteroids within our solar system.

Gaia's DR3 contained data on over 1.8 billion stars within the Milky Way, but there were still areas where the mapping was incomplete. However, the dense concentration of stars within their bright cores often presents difficulty for telescopes in obtaining a sharp and detailed view. Interestingly, the team was able to detect as many as half a million new stars within just a single cluster.

Identifying lensed quasars is difficult because the multiple images of a lensed system can appear “clumped” together in a misleading way. Additionally, most of these systems are very distant, which makes them faint and hard to detect.
