Government officials will now have six to 14 days after receiving a permit application to respond with written notification to communities affected. Previous policy could see this process take weeks. MLA Betty Nippi-Albright, opposition critic for First Nations and Métis relations, proposed a private member’s bill last November known as Bill 609, orwith the intent of reform existing framework to give Indigenous partners more say during projects involving Crown land sales or development. It was voted down by members in April.
