The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Western remakes.
Remakes are not an inherently bad idea, as a film that genuinely analyzes another and makes significant changes can become superior. The remakes of A Star is Born, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Manchurian Candidate, and Ocean’s Eleven transform rather mediocre movies into classics in their own right. Unfortunately, remakes have often become an excuse to cash in on a popular piece of intellectual property and simply utilize its cultural appeal.
'3:10 Yuma' Reworked the Story for a Modern Audience 3:10 to Yuma is also a remake that does a great job of deepening its characters. In the 1957 film, Glenn Ford was certainly entertaining as a version of Ben Wade that relishes in his own villainy, but Russell Crowe’s performance in James Mangold’s superb 2007 remake reflected a more realistic look at what the “Old West” was actually like.
