Four suspected New People’s Army rebels were killed while a soldier was wounded in a series of clashes in Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, March 1.

BACOLOD CITY — Troops of the 94th Infantry Battalion were conducting community security patrol following reports on the presence of unidentified armed men believed to be NPA rebels, and were allegedly extorting food and supplies from the residents in the area.

Three rebels were killed in the first encounter, and another fatality was reported following two more clashes in the said village. The local government and the City Social Welfare and Development Office distributed relief goods to the affected residents. In a statement, Almonte stressed that this operation is a clear demonstration of the government’s unwavering commitment to resolve the country’s long-standing insurgency problem in Himamaylan City.
