Bryan Guinn, the finance director for Fort Bend ISD, delivers a presentation explaining the impact of the bond on the existing tax rate.Like many other Fort Bend ISD residents, Mayo DeeDee has taken a keen interest in the district’s 1.26 billion bond package on the May 6 ballot.
Residents such as DeeDee have been attending in-person or virtual sessions staged by Fort Bend ISD to hear presentations and ask questions aboutProposition A, at approximately $1.18 billion, includes design and construction updates for seven schools, improvements in technology, transportation, safety and security and a complete rebuild of Clements High School.
“The repairs needed for Clements are complex, time-consuming and disruptive,” said Carolina Fuzetti, the district’s executive director of design and construction. “To repair , we must infuse about $113 million into the building. We would still have a 40-year-old building with 40-year-old bones. “I’ve been a volunteer in school; so I’ve spent a lot of hours here,” Marino said after taking the tour. “There’s 20 or 30 more foundation cracks , sinking sidewalks, holes underneath walls, stuff not up to code. The place is a mess.”
While she is supportive of the bond package, DeeDee is skeptical that the financial impact on homeowners would be limited to $2.50 a month for a $300,000 home if rising property values are taken into account.
