MANILA, Philippines — Former Filipino Olympian , comedian and politician Rosalio ' Yoyong ' Martires passed away on Tuesday as announced by his family. The Pinoy basketball great was 72. 'It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Rosalio ' Yoyong ' D. Martires ,' the family announced on social media. 'He has peacefully joined our Creator yesterday, June 18, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
His basketball resume as a national player includes winning the ABC Under-18 gold medal in 1970, along with being part of the 1973 Philippine men's team that captured the cage championship in Manila, beating Korea en route to a tournament sweep. Highlighting his basketball career was being part of the Philippine men's squad that played in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.
