Ex-campaign staffer for New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy denies sexual-assault allegation

TRENTON, N. J.—A former campaign staffer to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy who was hired for a state job after being accused of sexual assault denied the allegation in testimony to lawmakers Tuesday and said he was given time to find new employment after administration officials told him to leave.

Al Alvarez was subpoenaed to appear before a special legislative committee that is investigating how Mr. Murphy’s transition team and administration handled the sexual-assault accusation against him.
