Betty Maxwell was crowned Miss America 2016 in Atlantic City. She returned to ABC for a try at a second title.
“Pageant girls sing like pageant girls,” judge Luke Bryan told Maxwell. “You don’t sing like a pageant girl, you sing like a real singer.”

Ultimately, Perry settled for placing the crown on Maxwell’s head.
