Sam Shade, a former standout at Alabama and in the NFL, has been appointed as the head coach of Alabama A&M University.
Sam Shade , former Alabama and NFL defensive back, has been hired as the head coach of Alabama A&M University. Shade previously coached at Miles College for three seasons, leading the Golden Bears to an 18-15 record, including a conference championship and NCAA Division II playoff berth this past season. He replaces Connell Maynor, who was fired earlier this month.
Shade, a Birmingham native, won a national championship with Alabama in 1992 and played eight seasons in the NFL with Cincinnati and Washington. He has also coached at Samford, Georgia State, the Cleveland Browns, and Pinson Valley High School
