The problem is that four useful pieces aren’t going to turn the Spurs into contenders again. They need at least one giant game-changer. Twelve years ago, though, they were willing to say goodbye to George Hill when they had the chance to add Kawhi Leonard. And last spring, when given the chance to flip Derrick White for a first-round pick, they took it. Neither decision was easy, but in both cases the Spurs made the correct one.Maybe the Spurs’ dream draft target — whoever that is — will fall to them at the No. 9 pick. That’s not likely, though.

What Wright and the Spurs do over the next couple of days, and into the start of free agency next month, figures to determine a great deal about where the franchise is headed over the next half-decade.
