Outgoing Education Secretary Leonor Briones congratulated VP Sara Duterte as she took oath as the 15th vice president of the Philippines on Saturday, June 19, and urged the public to support the incoming secretary of the Department of Education.
Issuing a statement, DepEd said that it is one with the nation in congratulating Duterte on her inauguration for the second-highest post in the country.
Briones and her team also expressed eagerness to “assist” Duterte in “ensuring a smooth transition of priority education programs and policies” — including the Basic Education Development Plan 203 — which “can help the incoming administration in implementing further reforms.” The outgoing DepEd leadership also looks forward to the upcoming years of Duterte’s leadership as the Vice President and the Education Secretary as “we continue to deliver quality and inclusive basic education for our Filipino learners.”
With the department led by no less than the VP herself, Briones said this “speaks to the highest priority that education will be given under the incoming administration.”
