Connor Dietz became the all-time leading rusher for the Mustangs in the win.
Dietz rushed for 1,353 yards as a sophomore in 2021 and outdid himself by totaling 1,858 yards on the ground last season. As a junior, Dietz averaged 9.5 yards per carry. His three touchdowns against the Patriots gives him 57 for his career, which is already a Brick Memorial record. Tony Thorpe held the previous record with 44.
The action got started early as Freehold Township went 73 yards in six plays, ending in a touchdown from Nick Cardone to Nick Carnevale. Dietz would respond with an 11-yard touchdown run for the Mustangs. Cortes would toss his second touchdown of the first half to GianPaul Cortes to tie the game at 13.
The Mustangs showed off its explosiveness all night long. Kevin Andrews broke a 20-yard run to give Brick Memorial a 20-13 lead heading into the break. He finished with two touchdowns. Dietz wold provide the final highlight after the Brick Memorial defense made a fourth down stop. The first play of the drive went 78 yards for a touchdown to cap a special night.
Dietz entered the weekend with 3,544 passing yards. He is within striking distance of the program’s passing yards record, currently held by former Monmouth Hawk Brian Boland. The quarterback has a chance to reach another milestone in what has already been a historic career at Brick Memorial.
