NEW: Flu deaths are up more than 65% so far in 2020, with the CDC reporting that 4,800 people have died during the 2019-2020 flu season.
While deaths are up, visits to health care providers for the flu decreased for the week ending Jan. 4. The highest flu activity was clustered in 33 states, including much of the southern and western parts of the country, as well as New York City and Washington, D.C.2019-2020 Flu Season Activity for the Week Ending Jan. 04, 2020As of right now, 2019-2020 flu activity is primarily being driven by influenza B/Victoria viruses, which is unusual for this time of year.
