Photo: Joe Raedle/Getty Images Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill passed the state legislature on Tuesday, March 8, and will now go straight to Governor Ron DeSantis’s desk. The vote was 22-17, with two Republicans joining Democrats in the Florida senate to vote no.
The bill also includes a provision that allows parents to sue school districts if they feel an issue has not been resolved to their satisfaction regarding this law, which raises the question of who gets to decide what is “age appropriate” for students and what kind of discussion or instruction on LGBTQIA+ history and issues will be safe from prosecution.
