On Sunday,"Mad" Mike Hughes plans to launch himself from the floor of the Mojave Desert for the second year in a row aboard a homemade rocket.in a rocket made mostly from spare parts, reaching a height of nearly a half-mile before deploying a pair of parachutes, but still making a hard landing.
Hughes pulls together his system from what's readily available, like used parachutes purchased for $179 on eBay, according to Darren Shuster of Pop Culture PR.
