Five-star Ohio safety Trey McNutt, the No. 19 overall prospect in the 2025 class, announces he will no longer commit on Friday and pushes his commitment date to Aug. 3.
McNutt, the son of former Buckeye defensive back Richard McNutt , was scheduled to choose between Ohio State, USC, Florida, Texas A&M and Oregon on Friday at 6 p.m. However, the Shaker Heights, Ohio, native announced Friday afternoon he will now commit on Aug. 3.
The announcement comes as welcome news to Ohio State. The Buckeyes were considered frontrunners to land McNutt in 2023 and most of 2024, but it became apparent the program had fallen behind in the race when he did not make an official visit to Ohio State this summer. Instead, McNutt traveled to USC, Florida, Texas A&M and Oregon in May and June.
The No. 1 safety and No. 19 overall prospect in 2025, according to the 247Sports composite, McNutt would be a stellar addition to.
