UPDATE: One person has been taken to a hospital with burn injuries.
– At least one person was injured when a fire broke out in the restaurant of a high-rise building in downtown Los Angeles Monday morning, sending smoke billowing hundreds of feet into the air.The blaze was reported at 8:30 a.m. in a ground floor restaurant of a 27-story high-rise in the 200 block of Grand Avenue, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. The restaurant was believed to be undergoing renovations.
The blaze was quickly extinguished within about 20 minutes. However, the smoke rose through the entire building. One person who was in the restaurant when the fire broke out was taken to a hospital with burn injuries, the fire department said. An unknown number of people were stuck in elevators as a result of the blaze. However, all were taken out to safety.
There was no word on what started the fire. Officials were investigating unconfirmed reports of a possible explosion, LAFD said.
