Filipino wakeboarder Raphael Trinidad has secured a spot in the 2025 World Games , slated for August in Chengdu , China . Trinidad, a 24-year-old native of Liloan, Cebu, achieved this remarkable feat by winning the gold medal at the World Games Qualifying 2025 IWWF Asia and Oceania Cable Wakeboard and Wakeskate Championships. The competition took place over the weekend at Deca Wake Park Clark in Angeles, Pampanga.Trinidad dominated the wakeboard open men's category, scoring an impressive 81.
67 points, leaving his competitors far behind. Stanislav Fidelsky from Kyrgyzstan secured the silver medal with 77.67 points, while Thailand's Luke Atirat Carrick took home the bronze with 73.67 points. This victory adds to Trinidad's impressive athletic resume, which already includes two silver medals in the IWWF World Championships and seven national championships. His qualification for the World Games joins a growing list of Filipino athletes representing the country on the world stage.Other Filipino athletes who will compete in the World Games include the Philippine Dragon Boat Team, Paris Olympian and kickboxer Hergie Bacyadan, billiards champions Rubilen Amit, Chezka Centeno, and Jeff De Luna, as well as wushu specialists Agatha Wong, Carlos Baylon Jr., and Thornton Sayan. Powerlifter Regie Ramirez has also qualified, while two more national sports associations in karate and duathlon are actively working to secure spots. The Philippines also shone as the host nation in the wakeboard events, claiming four gold, five silver, and four bronze medals. In addition to Trinidad's triumph, Kherlie Santiago secured gold in the U14 ladies' wakeboard event, while Andrea Tanjangco, Jianna Lyn Dela Torre, and Arlita Domingo swept the podium in the 040 ladies' category. Carlo Dela Torre and Mark Griffin earned gold and silver, respectively, in the 040 men's division. Franchesca Coo added a silver in the U18 ladies' category, with Marvin Tucio and James Damanche securing bronze in the 030 men's and U14 men's divisions, respectively. In the wakeskate competition, Filipino athletes brought home three silver and four bronze medals.
