According to Dr. Pedro, the financial reward serves as a gift as well as support for Obiena’s preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry Inc. led by its president Cecilio Pedro has presented a P5 million check to pole vaulter EJ Obiena for his gold-medal triumph in the 19

FFCCCII Honorary President Ambassador Francis Chua has also awarded Obiena with an additional P1 million to support his Olympics campaign. Prior to the cash windfall, Obiena has also received P3 million from his high school alma mater Chiang Kai Shek a few days back and P1 million each from CKSC alumnus Carlos Chan of Oishi and businessman and Quanzhou Philippines Association President Anson Tan.
