Tatis, who missed the Padres’ NLDS upset of the Dodgers in October, drives in three runs with two swings against Clayton Kershaw in a 5-2 win that snaps the Dodgers’ six-game win streak.
SAN DIEGO — Fernando Tatis Jr. missed out on the San Diego Padres’ good times against the Dodgers last October.Tatis drove in three runs with two home runs off Clayton Kershaw, giving the locals in a sold-out Cinco de Mayo crowd the Dodger blue blood they craved and snapping the Dodgers’ six-game winning streak with a 5-2 defeat.
In 38 career games against the Padres’ NL West neighbors, Tatis has hit 15 home runs. Friday was the ninth multi-homer game in his career. Four of them have been against the Dodgers. He didn’t make it through five innings in San Diego. Besides the two home runs to Tatis, Kershaw matched his previous season total with five walks the most he had allowed in a game since August 2019. Coupled with the Padres’ eight hits, it made for a first in Kershaw’s career – he had never allowed as many as eight hits in a game when he walked so many.
If Tatis wasn’t part of the drama when the Padres upset the Dodgers in the playoffs last October, one storyline did carry over.
