The money is being returned by way of the Future Electricity Fund, and will go toward upgrades and improvements to the Saskatchewan grid.
The money will go towards three clean energy projects in the province, aimed at the 2035 grid net-zero goal and national climate goal to “achieve a net-zero emissions economy by 2050.”
“Investments from this fund are helping to create clean air, good jobs, and the development of a resilient low-carbon economy,” said Guilbeault in the same news release. Moe also said Saskatchewan has “tools that we can use” to challenge clean energy targets laid out by Ottawa. “Promoting fear about the impact on rates is irresponsible, especially given that the regulations haven’t even been developed,” he said in a statement to the Canadian Press.
