Federal regulators approved the expansion of a natural gas pipeline in the Pacific Northwest on Thursday, despite environmental protests and divisions among West Coast officials.The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a certificate for the Gas Transmission Northwest XPress Project , which will upgrade an existing natural gas transportation system in the region. GTNXP developer TC Energy and Republican lawmakers in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington pushed for the approval.
A federal commission on Thursday gave the green light to a pipeline project that would increase the flow of Canadian natural gas through the Pacific Northwest and California, despite opposition from tribes, attorneys general, governors and members of Congress.
