Schools from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa to north Alabama received the threats.
Authorities responded to an active shooter threat Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa County. The FBI is investigating swatting incidents at multiple Alabama schools.
FBI spokesman Paul Daymond on Wednesday said the agency is working with city and county investigators to identify the source of the bogus calls. Just before 10 a.m., the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Tuscaloosa police responded to Hillcrest High School after a receiving a call of an active shooter at the school. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jessica McDaniel said no shooting took place and no injuries were reported.Jasper High School also went on lockdown Tuesday morning, but the lockdown was lifted after the threat was not deemed credible.
