The Fast Saga film Fast X is rolling even closer to $1 billion at the worldwide box office, despite diminishing returns in the United States.
Fast X just barreled past a half billion in its third week in theaters despite diminishing returns in the United States. The film is the tenth outing in the Fast Saga which began with the unassuming crime thriller The Fast and the Furious in 2001 starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. In the intervening years, the action sequences and ensemble cast have ballooned.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Per Collider, the Fast X box office has risen to a worldwide total of $603.2 million this weekend. The film is currently the third highest-grossing film of the year behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, this gross is due in large part to international markets, as the film has only reached a relatively sleepy total of $128.5 million at the domestic box office.
The Fast X Box Office Could Be Bad News For Fast 12 Originally, Fast X was intended to be the first of a two-part finale to the current iteration of the Fast Saga. The film, which is generally referred to by the working title Fast X: Part 2, is expected in theaters in 2025. However, during promo for Fast X, Diesel teased that Universal asked for a three-part finale instead after early screenings.
However, the fate of the potential Fast 12 film may be up in the air in the face of these box office numbers. While reaching over a half billion is a tremendous feat for any movie, the new Fast film comes with a price tag of $340 million before factoring in publicity costs. Should the next film slump even further in the U.S. or - much worse - experience its first major slump internationally, this could prevent Fast 12 from ever revving its engine.
