MANILA — Farmers in Santa Cruz, Laguna are lamenting low palay prices now that harvest season has started.
"Lumbay na lumbay. Talagang mahina kami ngayon kasi nga nakita nyo sitwasyon ng palay, tingin nyo maganda, pero pag hinarvest na, break-even lang kami ngayon," Santa Maria said.Ruperto Sandoval, a farmer in neighboring Bgy. Labuin, said profit is low because of high price of agricultural input. "Kaya hinihiling ko nga sa ating DA, humanap naman sila ng ibang binhi, saka una nilang pababain yung gamit sa fertilizer, pesticide," he added.They said their projected production level has dropped because of pests.
