Kouri's brother Ronnie Darden said, "It's just unbelievable. You're in shock that something like that could happen."Ronnie added, "They all just sat there on the couch and just cried together." "This was a huge loss; he was this beautiful son and brother. To have that taken away from you, I can't imagine much worse than that," Skordas said. "Fentanyl is many, many times more potent than other pain medications we typically use. It's a very dangerous drug. He certainly wasn't an opioid or illegal drug user.... He didn't die of a self-inflicted drug overdose. They said this doesn't smell right.
