Keith’s mother, Rita Keith, filed the wrongful-death suit in federal court in Cleveland on Friday against CMHA officer James Griffiths.

“This lawsuit is another step in getting justice for Arthur Keith and his family, along with seeking answers and accountability from CMHA, its administration and its police department for Arthur’s untimely death,” Jackson said.“I don’t believe the CMHA Police Department has constitutional and unbiased policing,” Jackson said.and The Plain Dealer reached out to officials for CMHA and the Fraternal Order of Police Ohio Council, which represents CMHA officers.
Griffiths reported he responded to the call about the suspect in a van, and he arrived to find Keith holding a gun. He ordered Keith out of van. Keith got out and, according to Griffiths account, raised a gun at him. The lawsuit also says that no crime scene photo showed the gun near Keith’s body; it was only photographed in the back of a police cruiser after other evidence was collected.
