Faith Chapel Christian Center in Wylam, one of Birmingham’s largest predominantly Black churches, is about to undergo a big transition.
Faith Chapel Christian Center in Wylam, one of Birmingham’s largest predominantly Black churches, is about to undergo a big transition that looms as large as the giant domes on campus that are its trademark.
His son, Michael K. Moore, also known as “Pastor Michael Kenneth” or “Pastor M.K.,” as many members call him, will step up from executive pastor to lead pastor, after overseeing the business side of the church since 2012. He began alternating preaching duties with his father in 2018, both in Birmingham and at a branch campus started in Columbus, Ga., in 2019.
In 2011, Michael Kenneth earned his master’s degree in business administration from Samford University. In 2012, he became executive pastor for the church. My role was partnering with him to make the vision a reality,” Pastor M.K. said of working with his father. Pastor M.K. turned 40 on Aug. 31, and he said he’s committed to the church and plans to carry out his father’s long-term vision.I didn’t know much about what I was doing,” Pastor Mike said.
The effects of the pandemic changed the habits of worship attendance, with many people now choosing to worship online or through the church’s TV ministry.
