Facebook announced this morning that it is not changing the most controversial elements of its approach to campaign ads, allowing politicians to lie to voters

Facebook also said it is taking steps to give users more control over and insight into the ads they see, as well as improving its publicly available database of its political advertisements — allowing for more precise searches and filtering of ads and offering size estimates for their target audience. And the company announced it will soon allow users to control the volume of political and social issue ads they see.

Asked whether the company’s position on that might change, he added: “As of right now, this is what the policy is going to be.” CEO Mark Zuckerberg made two visits to D.C. last fall to defend Facebook’s refusal to fact-check candidates’ claims, includingwhere he argued that voters “should be able to see for themselves what politicians are saying.”
