A large crowd of West Shore residents attended our most recent board meeting to support kindness in our schools.
They agree that the idea “not every human is deserving of my child’s empathy” is extreme. This is a far right but loud minority.
We are not outliers. A 2022 national poll found 3 in 4 parents believe that elected officials and other political actors are pushing policies that would censor our kids and teachers, dictating what they can learn and teach. And 74% of parents surveyed believe politicians are using students as political pawns.
I urge readers to pay close attention to their school boards and upcoming school board elections. Together, we can stand against those who believe empathy and kindness are dirty words. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
