To keep crowds and artists safe, Columbus Police is adding extra officers to the arts beat this weekend, paying officers double overtime as part of a summer safety initiative called 'Operation Moonlight.'
"I would like to hope nothing like that would ever happen at the Arts Festival, said Jami Goldstein with the Columbus Arts Council.
CPD is not releasing the number of officers who have volunteered to staff the event for security reasons. There are also cement barriers on several streets, preventing drivers from crashing through the festival site. "The artist leave their booths. There are things overnight," said Goldstein. "They are constantly patrolling."
