He will take over for outgoing Chief Rick Vogt, who recently announced plans to retire after a 33-year career in fire service. Vogt served as chief for six years.Escondido city officials said they conducted a nationwide search for a new chief, and selected Tenger based on his 24 years of experience in the local department.“For nearly three decades, John has been a tremendous leader in our fire department and our community,” City Manager Sean McGlynn said in a statement.
“That’s really where I found a desire for public service,” said Tenger. “I’ve been on that mission ever since.” Tenger said he viewed his experience and the relationships he built over years in city government as an asset to Escondido residents.
