The Los Angeles RamsNFL signed former University of Utah All-American safety Eric Weddle to a one-year deal that will allow him to play in the playoffs. The NFC West champions open their playoff run Saturday night against the AZCardinals.

The sx-time Pro Bowl safety says he is done with his 13-year NFL career. Weddle apparently made his long-expected retirement announcement on Twitter on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, although the hard-hitting safety with the famously big beard didn't use the specific word.
In need of safety help with Jordan Fuller out for the season because of ankle injury and Taylor Rapp in concussion protocol, Weddle offers big credentials as a 13-year veteran with six Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro nods. Weddle retired in 2019 after registering 109 tackles and four passes defended while playing in all 16 games with the Rams.
As a Ute from 2003-06, Weddle was a consensus All-American in 2006, a first-team All-Mountain West pick in 2005 and 2006, and the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year during the same two seasons.
