The opportunity for energy companies to participate in the carbon exchange is quite large. The reason is, companies that produce high greenhouse gas emissions need balancing.
"The number is equivalent to 86 percent of all coal-based power plants operating in Indonesia. Our hope is that power plants will begin trading through the carbon exchange this year. In addition, it will also be enlivened by the forestry, agriculture, waste, oil and gas, general industry, and the upcoming marine sector," he said.
The implementation refers to Presidential Regulation No. 98 of 2021 regarding the Organization for the Achievement of National Designated Contribution Targets and Control of GHG Emissions in National Development. Then, Ministerial Regulation ESDM No. 16/2022 on the Procedures for the Organization of Carbon Economic Value in the Subsector of Electric Power Generation.
Previously, at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, on Friday , when asked about the carbon trading evaluation between coal-fired power plants, Jisman stated,"It is still voluntary. There has been no evaluation, we are still consolidating the data," he said.Meanwhile, from the mining sector, Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Energy, Mineral, and Coal Suppliers , Anggawira, welcomes the national carbon exchange launch with a positive outlook.
