Those that work in emergency medical services call it the most rewarding job, but across the nation, the industry is fighting against staffing shortages.
Butch Oberhoff with Acadian Ambulance Service and the Texas EMS Alliance says it’s been money well spent locally.
With the funds, Acadian has been able to provide a 12-week EMT course for students without cost. They also offer their own scholarships, as does Austin Community College. However, with the state funds decreasing, Oberhoff has concerns for other programs across Texas. Oberhoff hopes to see more opportunities become available for those looking to get into the field to help the workforce and the community.
