Production for Empire's sixth and final season was shut down due to COVID-19 concerns
On Tuesday, showrunner Brett Mahoney opened up the urgent and sudden decision to shut down production for the FOX series’Get push notifications with news, features and more.
While Mahoney said it is unclear what the future holds for the beloved show, he noted that he’s had conversations with the cast, crew members and network about possibly shooting the “true” series finale, saying it “is the hope and the dream.”Because production was shut down, Mahoney said fans won’t get answers to all of their questions — including “Who shot Lucious Lyon?”
“At one point, I had it shoehorned in there but it made me groan — I’m sure it would have made the fans groan,” Mahoney told the outlet. “I wanted to make it as much of a finale as possible, but I wanted it to be satisfying.” “The montage that you see when Yana’s singing and Cookie and Lucious are looking each other across the stage, we absolutely were supposed to have that feeling of longing during the song, but we didn’t script those flashbacks until we knew this was going to be the series ending,” he added.
