Pete Arredondo steps down from Uvalde City Council

Arredondo, the police chief of the Uvalde, was elected to the District 3 council position in early May.

Uvalde residents have loudly protested Arredondo's position on city council and called for him to be removed. In late June, the council voted down a request from Arredondo for a leave of absence. Arredondo was not present for the city council meeting on June 30,Uvalde's charter allows councilmembers to consider another member to have vacated his or her seat upon three consecutive missed meetings.

In the weeks after the shooting, authorities have traded blame and criticism over the shooting, with Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin accusing McCraw of selectively releasing of information about the investigation to make local law enforcement look bad.
