Los republicanos de la Cámara de Representantes se enfrentaron el miércoles con el secretario de Justicia, Merrick Garland, acusándolo a él y la agencia que encabeza de “explotar” el trabajo del departamento a favor del hijo del presidente Joe Biden, Hunter.
La comparecencia de Garland ante la Comisión Judicial de la cámara baja fue la primera en dos años y se produjo en un momento sin precedentes en la historia del departamento: Garland está supervisando dos casos contra Donald Trump, el primer expresidente que enfrenta cargos penales, y otro contra el hijo del presidente en ejercicio.
Garland, cuidadosa y deliberadamente, defendió a la agencia policial más grande del país, con más de 115.000 empleados, en un momento en que las amenazas políticas y físicas contra los agentes y sus familias van en aumento. Añadió: “No soy el abogado del presidente. Agregaré también que no soy el fiscal del Congreso. El Departamento de Justicia trabaja para el pueblo estadounidense”.
