FOR the first time since the start of its operations in 2020, ridership on the Edsa Carousel, or the Edsa busway, hit an all-time high last month peaking at 404,010 on October 24 and setting a record of 351,531 on average monthly ridership, the Department of Transportation said on Wednesday. According to the DOTr, in total, the Edsa Busway has catered to 130,238,608 commuters since it started its operations on June 1, 2020.

Launched in line with the efforts of the government to contain the transmission of Covid-19 on public transportation, the Edsa Busway is a dedicated median bus lane service under a collaborative project of the DOTr, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. To date, it continues to provide free rides to commuters under the Service Contracting Program.
