Crews worked overnight to put down a vegetation fire in East San Jose that burned around 33 acres after igniting Monday evening, authorities said.
The so-called Quimby Fire, burning near the 4700 block of Quimby Road in the East San Jose foothills, began burning just before 7:45 p.m., the San Jose Fire Department said.As of 6:51 a.m. Tuesday, crews had contained about 75% of the fire, which was kept at 33 acres burned, Cal Fire said.The fire was still a potential threat to life or property and evacuation warnings remained in place Tuesday morning.
'Those who require additional time to evacuate and those with pets and livestock should leave immediately,' Cal Fire said.Crews have struggled to contain the fire due to the tough access and terrain in the area, according to Cal Fire, which noted that at least 115 personnel were assigned to extinguish the blaze.According to San Jose Fire, there were three separate fires in the area. Around 10:20 p.m., Cal Fire said forward progress had been stopped and containment was at 5%.
