Lyons and photojournalist Jesse Walden were allegedly shot by Keith Moses, 19, while standing outside a crime scene in Pine Hills, Florida, where a 20-year-old woman was shot and killed earlier Wednesday morning. Moses then went into a nearby home and allegedly shot a mother and her 9-year-old daughter, who later died. The mother and Walden, who are critically injured, remain in the hospital.
During his brief time in the journalism field, Lyons received the best"Politics/Elections Series" award from the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists and was a finalist for investigative reporting. He loved anchoring and reporting, the outlet said, dedicating his career to"making sure all communities and stories are treated fairly and equally."
Charter Communications, Spectrum News 13's parent company, also released a statement on Lyon's death.
