Dwayne Johnson believes Brendan Fraser should win Best Actor for The Whale. Fraser has made his comeback as a leading man in the Darren Aronofsky-directed film as Charlie, a reclusive English teacher struggling to reconnect with his estranged daughter . Fraser rose to fame in the early 2000s with various quirky comedies such as George of the Jungle, and as the face of the action-adventure Mummy franchise.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Johnson has also enjoyed the limelight lately, most recently for his starring role in DC's latest film Black Adam. While both men have done their time as action stars, Johnson is still firmly in that genre of blockbusters while Fraser has moved into dramas and smaller-scale projects over the last few years. The two did co-star in The Mummy Returns, with Fraser reprising his role as Rick O'Connell and Johnson playing the Scorpion King.
"I want him to go all the way, man. I wanna see him on that Oscar stage, and hold that sucker up, and deliver, I'm sure, what will be an amazing speech. When they came to me and asked me to be in The Mummy Returns, that was Brendan's movie. He had to okay it. He had no idea. We had never met. We had never even spoken on the phone. Brendan Fraser Is A Serious Contender For Best Actor For The Whale Johnson's moving account of his relationship with Fraser and bid for the actor as an Oscar contender hasn't been the first show up support in what some are calling the 'Fraser Renaissance.' In terms of winning Best Actor, Fraser is a strong contender.
As a result of Fraser's loving fan base, inspiring return to the big screen, dedication to having a positive effect with the film, and recent acclaim, there has been plenty of Oscar buzz around the actor. His current competition includes Austin Butler for Elvis, Bill Nighy for Living, Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, and Hugh Jackman for The Son, a list which will likely expand as more films are released this season.
