A Honda Accord was seen traveling at speeds of up to 117 mph as it was pursued by police, officials said. Police said the crash happened after they halted their pursuit.
A driver of a Honda that sped over 110 mph while pursued by police through Lake View Terrace and Mission Hills died when the car later collided with a Subaru, then slammed into a tree near the border of Van Nuys and Sherman Oaks on Saturday evening, June 11.
The car was later spotted along the westbound 118 Freeway, Geraty said. Police started chasing it again as it exited the 405 Freeway at Rinaldi, then traveled down Sepulveda Boulevard. They called off the pursuit a second time north of Chatsworth Street when the Honda began heading west in eastbound lanes of the 118 Freeway.
Officers did not continue to chase after the Accord, Geraty said. Moments later, it struck another vehicle while traveling through a stop sign at Mammoth and Burbank, then crashed into a tree.
