A man was stabbed in his car last month in Franklin Township in Somerset County following an altercation at a local gas station, authorities announced Monday.and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office were called to a local hospital shortly after 12:30 a.m. on July 23 after staff reported that a man was being treated there for two stab wounds, according to a joint statement from the department and the office.
The man told detectives that he allegedly had a verbal altercation with another man, identified Monday as 32-year-old Somerset resident Matthew Hall, at the gas station and that Hall put his hands on him, police said. The man responded by shoving Hall, who then got a weapon out of the trunk of his car.
As the man drove away from the station, Hall allegedly attempted to stab him with the weapon and then got into his own car to follow him, the office said. While stopped at a traffic light on Demott Lane and Easton Ave., Hall pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle, and began to stab at his neck and chest, officials alleged. The man suffered stab wounds on his hand and bicep from attempting to block himself from being cut.
Hall was arrested in Franklin Township and charged with attempted murder and weapons related-offenses, officials said. He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending his detention hearing.Anyone with information about the stabbing was asked to contact the office’s major crimes unit at 231-7100 or the Franklin Township Police Department at 873-5533 or via the STOPit app.
