Driver, 23, injured after crossing lanes, slamming into palm trees in Clairemont [Breaking]
A 23-year-old driver suffered serious injuries Saturday night after his car swerved across traffic lanes, jumped a curb and slammed head on into two palm trees in Clairemont, San Diego police said.
Firefighters had to rescue the trapped driver from his badly damaged car following the solo crash, which occurred about 9:10 p.m. on Genessee Avenue near Derrick Drive, just north of Balboa Avenue, according to police and firefighters. The man was driving south on Genesee when he apparently lost control of his 2006 Honda Accord and veered across opposing lanes, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said in a news release. The car then jumped a curb and slammed into two palm trees, knocking them over, outside a mechanic shop near the entrance to a shopping center.
Police did not say what may have caused the driver to crash. The department’s traffic division was investigating.
