A new fleet of shark-monitoring drones will be sent to New York coastlines in response to a frightening spate of bites and sightings near Long Island this week, state officials said Friday.
There may soon be more sharks on camera than in the “Jaws” series.
The high-flying gadgets will be deployed to beach communities on Long Island and in New York City, beefing up the state’s shark surveillance program, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced. “These new drones will increase the shark monitoring capacity of local governments across Long Island and New York City, ensuring local beaches are safe for all beachgoers,” Hochul said in a press release.Dozens of new shark-monitoring drones will be sent to New York shorelines after a spate of shark bites.
