WIRE & STAFF REPORTS Alabamians are now paying more for gasoline on average than they ever have, and Dothan's average of $4.16 a gallon ranks among the top price in the the state's metro areas, according to AAA Alabama on Thursday.
The statewide average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline is $4.13. That’s seven cents higher than the old record price - $4.05, recorded on Sept. 16, 2008.AAA's website on Thursday shows Dothan's price for a gallon of regular unleaded was up nine cents from $4.07 on Wednesday. The average price a week ago was $3.53 and $3.27 a month ago. Last March, Dothan motorists were paying $2.60 a gallon.
AAA also notes the average price for diesel fuel at $5.21 in the Dothan on Thursday, up more than $1 from a week ago when it averaged $4.10 a gallon. Last March, diesel cost $2.81. A month ago, the average price in Alabama was 93 cents cheaper, at $3.21. That increase is the highest in the nation over that time, according to 247WallSt.com.The price of diesel fuel also went over the $5, to hit an average of $5.02.The most expensive counties for a gallon of gas, according to AAA Alabama:
