DoorDash is finally detailing changes to its controversial tipping policy, one month after the company's CEO promised an update in response to a widespread backlash.
Since 2017, DoorDash has at times taken a customer's tip and put it toward covering the base pay for that customer's delivery person. This practice made some customers feel they had been duped into footing the bill for delivery workers instead of merely providing an above-and-beyond bonus. Last month, a New York Times report once again put the issue in the spotlight.
